The Dickinson Police Department would like to welcome any 9 – 12 grader interested in law enforcement to the Youth Academy. The Youth Academy is a program developed by the DPD to give participants an inside look at police work and the duties performed by the officers.

The Youth Academy is a hands-on approach to learning police skills and techniques. The participants will be involved in investigations, crime scenes, interviewing and interrogations, patrolling, tactical team exercises, drug enforcement, laser shooting scenarios and more.

The participants are given the opportunity to ride in the squad car with officers on patrol. They will see first-hand what the officer does when he responds to calls and how he deals with everyday occurrences. The classes in the past have logged over 140 hours of ride-along time with various officers. They witnessed everything from traffic stops to high stress calls.
