DPD Officer Nick Gates was recently promoted to the rank of Sergeant during a ceremony at the Dickinson Law Enforcement Center. He fills the position vacated by SGT Dan Brown, who retired last month.
SGT Gates was hired by the DPD in July of 2005, and promoted to the rank of Senior Patrol Officer in April of 2008. He assumed the roles of shift commander of D Shift early last month.
SGT Gates is a one of only a handful of certified Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) in the state. He was named Traffic Safety Officer of the Year in 2012, and is currently the department's traffic safety coordinator (manages alcohol and seatbelt grants). His new task of Sergeant involves managing the day-to-day operations on his shift, as well as encumbering other administrative duties.
Congrats on the promotion Nick!
