The Dickinson Police Department learned of the passing of one of its former officers this past weekend. Phillip Walker joined the DPD in 1969 and served with the department for 5 years. He was previously stationed with the US Air Force at the Radar Base here in Dickinson and met his wife, Patricia, while in Dickinson. After the DPD, Phillip worked with Burlington Northern Railroad for 30 years and retired to Florida.

Phillip died on Saturday, May 16th in Winter Haven, Florida. Our thoughts go out to the Walker Family, and recognize Phillip's service to the community and the country. (2 photos)

The Dickinson Police Department would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank You" to the staff and congregation of Redeemer Lutheran Church for their thoughtfulness during National Police Week. Police work is at time a thankless profession, but the good citizenry of Dickinson and the overwhelming community support our department receives reminds all of us we stand together and together we make a difference.

National Police Week can be a sad and somber time for officers as we take time to remember our fallen comrades and their families. But at the same time, we reflect on our mission and purpose as police officers and realize we do what we do out of a sense of duty, honor, and responsibility to ourselves and our community. The reward a police officer receives doesn't come in the form of salary or material goods; it comes from the people we serve and the public trust bestowed upon us to do right by the community. Thank you to all for your enduring trust and support.

Workers have finished hanging the Corten weathering steel on the Public Safety Center's exterior wall. While the panels currently look gray, they are designed to weather and rust over the next several months, giving the building unique character. Corten steel is becoming more popular around the world as an aesthetic alternative to painted/stained steel.

As far as the rest of the PSC, workers are finishing up the taping and texturing the of interior walls; about 1/3 of the building's offices are even painted already. The completion date is fast approaching!
