Stats

The Dickinson Police Department is currently staffed with forty-three sworn & civilian employees who provide law enforcement services to the community. Fourteen of the staff are classified as civilian employees and twenty-nine are classified as sworn. The staffing level of the late 90's and early 00's was near an all time low of thirty-five. The staffing level peaked at fourty-five in the 1980's.

In reviewing the staffing per capita level for North Dakota Municipal agencies, the Dickinson Police Department is the second lowest at 1.49 officers per 1,000 residents. The State average is 1.69 per 1,000 residents and the national average is 1.8 to 2.3. This information is taken from the 1998 issue of "Crime in the U.S".

While looking at the staffing levels it is also important to look at the cost per taxpayer for services. The Department of Justice reported the national average for municipal agencies our size at $120 to $150 per resident per year. The cost for Dickinson residents is $98 per resident per year.
