The First Annual "Bacon Bowl" Flag Football Game was recently held at the Hagen Junior High football field. Officers from the Dickinson Police Department were pitted against officers from the Stark County Sheriff's Department and North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The "Blue Vs. Brown" game was designed to foster inter-agency working relations as well as get a good dose of fresh air.
After four quarters of play, "Brown" somehow managed to slip past the police department, winning the game 54-36. Some officers credit their success to youthfulness and skill. Others credit the win as pure luck.
The "Bacon Bowl" is now scheduled to be an annual event. The public is encouraged to come and watch their local officers stomp on the gridiron!

Kristi Schwartz, Manager of the Dickinson Walmart, presents Chief Chuck Rummel and the Dickinson Police Department with a new 20-inch television courtesy of Walmart's Community Foundation program. The television, as well as recording/playback devices, will enable the Department to playback security camera footage of several community businesses. Prior to receiving this equipment, officers often had to view camera footage at the scene and had no means of playing the footage back later on.
In 2004, the Wal-Mart & SAM'S CLUB Foundation matched $61 million in grants for organizations in 3,500 communities, helping to support organizations large and small, from local schools, YMCA and other youth programs, fire departments, police departments, libraries and more.
The Department is also seeking a Foundation Grant that will allow the department to update electornics such as digital cameras and camcorders. The new electronics will greatly improve crime scene processing as well as update the department's surveillence equipment.

The 2005 Roughrider Days went off this year without any big problems. The Dickinson Police Department, in conjunction with the Stark County Sheriff's Office and North Dakota Highway Patrol, started the weekend by conducting a sobriety checkpoint in north Dickinson. Several drivers were tested for driving under the influence, but no arrests were made.
The Bike Patrol unit also had a strong presence during Roughrider Day activities. A big target area for the bike patrol was the outdoor beer gardens throughout town. The capstone of the events was the downtown beer garden near the post office. This event was the first ever for the City of Dickinson. The event had a very high turnout, but through the cooperation with everyone in attendance, officers encountered very few problems.
Senior Patrolman Joe Cianni gave kids and parents alike an inside look at one of the department's patrol cars during Family Fun Day on July 2nd. The event was held at Jaycee Park in south Dickinson. The Dickinson Fire Department and North Dakota National Guard also had displays at the park.
The 4th of July weekend was also witness to several DUI arrests. Between the Dickinson Police Department, Stark County Sheriff's Department, and North Dakota Highway Patrol, almost 10 drivers were arrested for Driving Under the Influence. An injury accident on July 1st in Dickinson was alcohol related. The department reminds drivers never to drink and drive and to select a designated driver instead!
